Il Comitato Associativo Scolastico per la Lingua Italiana
C.A.S.L.I. is an association under Swiss law, operating in all cantons of the consular district of Zurich.
Its purpose is to carry out linguistic and cultural initiatives for the Italian community. In the 1970s and 80s it supported Italian emigrants with school and work integration. Since the 1990s it has promoted and managed, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Zurich, Italian language and culture courses for children aged 6 to 15.
It currently manages 180 courses (137 primary level and 43 secondary level), with 38 teachers and over 2,200 students.
It is financed by course enrolment fees, contributions from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI), and any public or private contributions and donations.
The bodies of C.A.S.L.I. are: the Assembly of Delegates, the President, the Board of Directors and the Auditors. The President and all elected members work as volunteers, serve three-year terms and can be re-elected.
The current President is Domenico Chindamo, of Calabrian origin, resident in Winterthur for over 40 years, in office since 30 May 2017 (fourth term). His achievements include reforming the statutes, permanent contracts for all employees, improved pensions, a new headquarters, and ongoing dialogue with families and institutions.
